Ground Breaking Ceremony

Admiral Collingwood
Development Underway

The Admiral Collingwood Place construction is now underway following the official ground breaking ceremony on Thursday, December 27, 2007. The building had been awaiting final approvals and has now received the signal to move ahead.

“Finally, there is action behind the handsome hoardings at Hurontario and Hume!” says Stephen Assaff, President of Admiral Collingwood Development Corporation.

Over the past months, developer Steve Assaff has stood behind his commitment to make this significant building a reality. He comes with a longstanding history as a successful downtown property owner and firmly believes that “a quality residence at the centre of Collingwood’s downtown is a great benefit to the growth and maturity of the town itself, and an important place to call home for residents who have continued to support the value of living in the heart of the town”.

Last month, appointments were announced to mark the commitment of three companies who bring their strengths to make Admiral Collingwood Place the best place to live in Collingwood.

First, Marylyn Joel is responsible for the design of interior shared spaces – the lobby, the Roof Top Garden, the corridors and social spaces – will all reflect her taste and talent to create comfortable, livable surroundings.

Second, Tom Lepage has taken on the responsibility of managing the property. He is, according to his own description, a detail man, so the building will be cared for in the most professional manner.

Third, Stature Construction Ltd. is appointed as contractor/builders. Steve Blair and Chris Anderson, principals of Stature, have a reputation for building the highest quality. Their work includes Westin Hotel and Mosaic, for Intrawest, and the renowned Lora Bay and Cobble Beach Clubhouses. “Our building will be in the very best of hands as it rises from the ground,” says Assaff.

Admiral Collingwood Place wraps the significant southern entry to Collingwood’s main street. It will be home also to two major businesses. Shoppers Drug Mart and Bank of Montreal will relocate to street level spaces in mid 2008. Both businesses have endured a long wait to fulfill on their intention to move into Admiral Collingwood Place.

While Admiral Collingwood Place will be constructed at the south boundary of Collingwood's Downtown Historic District, the Shipyards Development will be constructed at the north end of Hurontario Street.

"The commercial impact of the two major developments on the north and south of Hurontario Street will benefit Collingwood immensely."
-- Jeffrey Shear, Downtown Collingwood BIA

BIA head Jeffrey Shearer says, “ The 400 businesses of downtown Collingwood have been eagerly awaiting the news that Admiral Collingwood Place is now underway. The commercial impact of the two major developments on the north and south of Hurontario Street will benefit Collingwood immensely. People who live downtown don’t have to drive downtown. The resulting low environmental effect and increase in pedestrian traffic is nothing but good news for our downtown and all of Collingwood.”

Admiral Collingwood Place is a five-storey condominium residence of 87 homes only, sized from 800 to 2,400 sq. ft. and priced from $249,900 including GST and underground parking. The sales office is located on site, adjacent to Scotiabank and Hurontario Street.
