Take some time to explore the many treasures available for purchase in Java Soul, at 78 Hurontario Street in Downtown Collingwood. Owner's Anton Kurniawan and Melanie Case worked on a cruise ship together where they toured extensively and gathered many ideas that they have now put to good use in their own retail venture. "We had been doing summer festivals together and we decided that we should should open a retail store" said Anton.
Java Soul opened in the Fall of 2007 and offers an extensive selection of unique items for the home or for gift giving including necklaces, hand bags, sculptures, ornaments, drums, photo albums, scarfs, coasters and place settings. "Our items are hand made ... and they're all home made by members of my family" Anton boasts. "We have hand painted bath robes and women's tops made by friends and relatives" he added.
Melanie Case is originally from Manitoulin Island, and Anton Kurniawan is from Java, Indonesia. Melanie has certainly lived through many Canadian Winters, but Java is a tropical paradise. Anton says he's looking forward to experiencing his first Canadian Winter. "This is the first winter for me and I'm really excited. I bought a ski pass and I'm ready to go" Anton said.
